Should I put my 3 1/2 yr old in Parent and Tot or a Level 1A class? How are they different?

Things to keep in mind when deciding between 1A or Parent and Tot:

We strive for our swimmers to be happy and have a positive experience at Swim Safe.

Visual learners are often not willing to go with an instructor and need a little bit more parent interaction to feel comfortable in a new environment. If your swimmer is still attached to you, please enroll in Parent and Tot

Our Parent and Tot class teaches you how to teach your swimmer our 1A skills prior to having an instructor-only led class. Our Parent and Tot Instructors are knowledgeable and can enhance both you and your child’s experience, giving your child the confidence they need to move on to 1A. It also gives your swimmer an opportunity to work one-on-one with an instructor while you are still close by.

Timing is everything. Your lesson schedule is an important factor. Your 3-year-old might be happy in your pool and in the morning or afternoon, but by 6:00pm they might have had a busy day and are looking for connection with just you. We find our young swimmers can be fine with an instructor one day, and not the next. Swim Safe is a very busy environment that can be overwhelming to 3- and 4-year-old swimmers if they have not become accustomed to our facility.

Swim Safe Level 1A is for beginner swimmers who are ready to learn independently with an instructor and are comfortable being away from their parent during class. In this level, swimmers build water confidence by learning to blow bubbles, submerge, move comfortably in chest-deep water, float, and swim 2 metres. Classes take place in our small pool, which is 26 inches deep.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, gift certificates for Sessions (10 lessons) are available.

Are there swimming lessons on holidays?

Yes we run our program on Victoria Day, Canada Day and the Civic Holiday.

Do lessons take place on rainy days?

Yes, we swim rain or shine. The only time we will cancel swim lessons is if it is thunder-storming!

You can check for updates on home page of the website at Swimsafe.ca. We try not to cancel too soon as we are unable to makeup these lessons.

How do i know what level my child should be enrolled in?

If you are coming from a YMCA or another program with different curriculum's, there is an equivalency chart on our website you may look at and compare our levels to other facilities. You can also look under swim levels and that will tell you everything about our program and level criteria.

What does my Swimmers End Level Button mean?

The Button your Swimmers receive on Day 10 is the level they have completed!

A Star button is for Parent & Tot as well as an incomplete level.

What does my child need on the first day of lessons?

Make sure your child has a swim suit, sunscreen (put on 30 mins before getting into the water), towel, goggles, and an extra change of clothes. We also have goggles for sale here at our facility.

What if my Swimmers Level on the Site is not correct?

You should be able to Enroll your Swimmers into any Level/class regardless of what the site says but the Level on the site goes on the Instructors worksheet so it should be correct. Email info@swimsafe.ca and we will change your Swimmers level.

How do I get added to the mailing list?

Please create a profile under your name, get a confirmation email (check your Junk if it doesn't arrive), add your Swimmers and Level. We will then send you an e-mail Announcement with a heads up about upcoming Enrollment, and Class Cancellations due to Thunder. You can unsubscribe at anytime.
